Privacy Policy
Last updated: [25 October 2006]
1. Who We Are and What This Policy Covers
Pure Living Lab publishes home and kitchen product reviews, buying guides, and comparisons at purelivinglab.com. This policy explains what personal information we collect through the site and our emails, why we collect it, who else receives it, and what choices you have.
The site is run by Mohammed Abdullah, based in Bangladesh. In this policy, "we," "us," and "our" mean that operator. We decide how and why the personal information described here is used, so we are the data controller.
Send privacy questions and requests to info@purelivinglab.com with "Privacy Request" in the subject line.
This policy covers purelivinglab.com and the emails we send. It does not cover other sites we link to, including Amazon.com. Their own privacy notices apply there. We do not sell products, take payments, or offer visitor accounts. You buy from the retailer on the retailer's site.
2. Information We Collect and How We Use It
Information you give us
- Contact form. Your name, email address, the topic you choose, and your message. Please leave out sensitive details such as health, financial, or government ID information.
- Newsletter signup. Your email address and any other detail the signup form asks for.
- Emails. Your email address, name if shown, and the content of your message when you write to info@, discover@, or admin@purelivinglab.com.
- WhatsApp and social media messages. Your phone number or profile name and what you write. WhatsApp and the social platforms also handle this under their own terms.
Information collected automatically
When you visit, our systems and the tools described below receive your IP address, browser type and version, device type and operating system, the pages you view and how long you stay, the page or site that referred you, the date and time, and your approximate location, such as country or city, worked out from your IP address. Our web host, Hostinger, keeps standard server logs. Google Analytics collects usage statistics (Section 5). Cookies are covered in Section 4.
Affiliate referral information
When you click a product link that leads to Amazon, Amazon receives the click and information from your browser (Section 6). Amazon's reports to us show clicks, orders, and commissions. They do not name you, and we do not receive your Amazon account details or payment information.
Why we use it
- To answer your messages, look into errors or product suggestions, and handle partnership requests.
- To send the newsletter if you ask for it.
- To see how the site is used and decide which guides to write or update.
- To credit affiliate commissions.
- To keep the site secure and stop spam and abuse.
- To meet legal obligations and enforce our policies.
3. Comments and Media
The site does not currently have a public comment form, and visitors cannot upload files or images.
If we turn on comments, WordPress will store the name, email address, and website you enter, your IP address, your browser details, and the comment with its date. Your name and comment would be public. We may run comments through a spam filter, which would receive those details. Comments can also show a Gravatar profile image. Gravatar, a service run by Automattic, receives a scrambled version (a hash) of your email address to find your image. We will update this policy before turning comments on.
We upload the images on this site ourselves. Image files can carry hidden data such as camera details and GPS location (EXIF). If we ever let visitors upload images, we will explain here how we handle that data first.
4. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. Pixels and local storage do a similar job. This is what the site uses.
| Type | What it does | Who sets it | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential and functional | Keeps the site working. Visitors have no accounts, so we do not set login cookies for visitors. | Us | None Found |
| Analytics: _ga | Tells Google Analytics which visits come from the same browser. | Google Analytics, on our domain | Up to 2 years by default |
| Analytics: _ga_ | Keeps track of a visit session. | Google Analytics, on our domain | Up to 2 years by default |
| Affiliate tracking | Amazon sets its own cookies and identifiers when you click an Amazon link, so it can credit the referral to us. We do not control them. | Amazon | Set by Amazon. See Section 6. |
| Advertising | We do not run advertising cookies, retargeting tags, or social media pixels on this site. | None | Not applicable |
Browsers can shorten these periods. Google notes that Safari limits first-party cookies to 7 days, and Chrome to 400 days, if you do not return to the site.
We do not currently show a cookie banner or preference center. Analytics cookies are set when a page loads. To control cookies, change your browser settings to block or delete them, or use the opt-out tool in Section 5. Blocking analytics cookies does not stop the site from working.
5. Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, a service from Google LLC, to see how many people visit, which pages they read, and where they come from. We use the results to decide which guides to write or update.
What it collects
Google Analytics records page views, how long you stay, clicks on links, your device type, browser, and operating system, your approximate location worked out from your IP address, the site that referred you, and a random identifier stored in the cookies listed in Section 4. We do not send your name or email address to Google Analytics.
How Google handles it
Google processes this data for us on servers in the United States and other countries. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/privacy/partners.
How long it is kept
We keep Google Analytics user and event data for 16 months. Google lets standard properties choose 2 months or 14 months.
Settings and consent
We have not turned on Google Signals and have not linked Google Analytics to Google Ads. We do not currently use Google Consent Mode. Google Analytics runs for all visitors, and we do not currently ask for consent before it sets cookies.
Your choices
Install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. It stops Google Analytics from receiving data about your visits on any site that uses it. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser or use tracking protection. If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, see Section 11.
6. Affiliate Links and Amazon Associates
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Links to Amazon.com on this site carry our Associate tag. When you click one, Amazon can tell the visit came from us. Under Amazon's program rules, a referral covers one session that ends after 24 hours, when you place an order, or when you click another Associate's link. If you add an item to your cart during that session, we can still be credited if you buy it within 89 days of the click.
To do this, Amazon uses cookies and similar identifiers on its own site. Amazon's agreement with us also lets Amazon monitor, record, use, and disclose information about visitors to our site that it obtains through our links, for example that a customer clicked one of our links before buying. Amazon controls that information, not us. Its handling is set out in the Amazon.com Privacy Notice.
We receive reports with click counts, orders, and commission amounts. They do not name you, and we do not receive your Amazon account details, address, or payment information.
To limit this tracking, block or delete cookies in your browser, change your privacy settings in your Amazon account, or go to Amazon directly without using our link.
Read more in our Affiliate Disclosure.
7. Third-Party Websites and Embedded Content
Our product links lead to retailers, mainly Amazon.com. Once you click, the retailer's own privacy notice applies and we have no control over what it collects.
The footer links to profiles on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram and to a WhatsApp chat. These are ordinary links. Those services receive information from you only if you click through and use them.
We do not currently embed videos, social media posts, maps, or other third-party widgets. If we add any, the provider may receive your IP address and set cookies when the page loads, and we will update this policy.
Our design uses Google Fonts. When fonts load from Google, your browser sends a request to Google that includes your IP address and browser details.
8. Who We Share Your Information With
Service providers that work for us
- Our web host, Hostinger
- Our email provider, Hostinger.
- Our newsletter service, Hostinger.
- Google, for Google Analytics.
These providers process information for us under their service terms.
Independent third parties
Amazon and other retailers receive information when you click their links. WhatsApp and social platforms receive information if you contact us through them. Google receives your IP address if fonts load from its servers. Each of them uses that information under its own privacy policy.
Others
We may disclose information to courts, regulators, or law enforcement when the law requires it or to protect our rights, the site, or other people. We may share it with accountants or lawyers who keep it confidential. If the site or business is sold or merged, information may pass to the new owner, who must honor this policy for information already collected.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not give your name or email address to brands or advertisers. Some US state laws define "sale" or "sharing" broadly enough to cover certain cookie-based data flows to third parties. We do not currently run targeted advertising or retargeting, so we do not treat our setup as a sale or sharing under those laws. If that changes, we will update this policy and offer an opt-out.
9. How Long We Keep Your Information
| Information | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Contact messages and emails | As long as needed to reply and follow up, then 6 months after the last message. |
| Newsletter subscriber data | Until you unsubscribe. After that we keep your email address on a suppression list so we do not email you again. |
| Server logs | Log retention period set 30 days |
| Google Analytics data | Cookies last up to 2 years by default. |
| Privacy requests and our replies | 12 Months |
When we no longer need information, we delete it or remove anything that identifies you, unless the law requires us to keep it.
10. Where Your Information Is Sent
We run this site from Bangladesh. Our web host stores site data in France. Google and Amazon process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. Your information may therefore be handled in countries other than the one where you live.
If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to a transfer of your information outside the EEA or UK, we rely on the transfer tools each provider offers in its data processing terms, such as standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision. You can ask us for details by email.
If Bangladesh data protection law applies, you can ask us for a summary of the safeguards that protect your information when it leaves Bangladesh.
11. Your Privacy Rights
How to make a request
Email info@purelivinglab.com with "Privacy Request" in the subject and tell us what you want. We may ask you to reply from the email address you used with us, so we know the request is yours. We aim to answer within 30 days and will tell you if we need longer and why. We do not charge a fee for ordinary requests. We can refuse a request that is clearly unfounded or excessive, or when the law lets or requires us to keep the information.
What we can find
We can look up contact messages and newsletter records by email address. Google Analytics data is tied to a random cookie identifier, not to your name or email, so we usually cannot match it to you. If you want us to try, send us the value of your _ga cookie and we will ask Google to delete the related data where we can.
Rights for everyone
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time.
US residents
Depending on your state, you may have the right to know and access your personal information, correct it, delete it, get a copy in a portable format, opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising, and not be treated unfairly for using these rights. Many state laws apply only to businesses above a certain size or data volume, and we have not confirmed that we meet any of them. We will handle requests from US residents under the rights listed here whether or not a legal threshold applies.
If we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer with "Appeal" in the subject line. We will respond within the time your state's law sets. If you remain unhappy, you can contact your state attorney general.
EEA, UK, and Switzerland
If the GDPR, UK GDPR, or Swiss law applies to our handling of your information, you can also ask us to restrict or stop processing and to move your data to another service. You can withdraw consent at any time, and that does not affect processing done before. You can complain to a data protection authority, such as the UK Information Commissioner's Office or the authority in your EU country.
"We use your information on these bases: your consent for newsletter emails and for analytics cookies where the law requires consent; our legitimate interest in running, securing, and improving the site and answering messages; and legal obligations."
Bangladesh
If Bangladesh data protection law applies, you can ask us in writing for access to your personal information, correction, erasure, or to stop processing that depends on your consent, and you may be able to receive your data in a portable format. We will tell you when we correct information. You can also complain to the Bangladesh data protection authority.
Withdrawing consent
Use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter to stop emails. For analytics, use the choices in Section 5.
12. Email and Newsletters
If you sign up, we email you about once a week with new reviews, seasonal collections, and deals. The emails come from discover@purelivinglab.com. We use your email address, and any other detail on the signup form, only for the newsletter and for messages about your subscription. We send newsletters through Hostinger, which stores your address for us. Writing to us through the contact form does not subscribe you.
Our newsletter service may record whether you open an email and which links you click. Every email has an unsubscribe link. You can also email discover@purelivinglab.com and we will remove you promptly, and within 10 business days at the latest.
13. Security and Data Breaches
No website or email system is completely secure, and we cannot promise absolute protection. Please do not send us passwords, payment card numbers, or ID numbers.
If a breach affects your personal information, we will investigate, take steps to limit harm, and notify affected people and regulators where the law requires. Deadlines depend on the law. The GDPR and UK GDPR generally require notice to the regulator within 72 hours of becoming aware of a reportable breach. US states set their own rules. Bangladesh law requires notice to the authority when a breach is likely to cause significant damage.
14. Children's Privacy
This site is written for adults who shop for their homes. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. That includes children under 13, who are covered by the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. Under Bangladesh law, a child is anyone under 18, and a parent or guardian must consent before a child's information is handled.
If you are a parent or guardian and think your child gave us information, email info@purelivinglab.com with "Privacy Request" in the subject and we will delete it.
15. Other Privacy Matters
Automated decisions and profiling
We do not make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects. Analytics reports group visitors into statistics. We do not build profiles of individual visitors.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Our site does not currently change how it works when your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. Google Analytics runs either way. Section 4 and Section 5 explain how to limit tracking yourself.
Third parties that collect information on our site
Google, through Google Analytics and possibly Google Fonts, collects information when you use our site. Amazon collects information after you click one of our links. Both may collect information about your online activity over time and across other sites under their own privacy policies. We do not control that.
Changes to this policy
We will post any new version on this page with a new date. If a change affects how we use information we already hold, we will email newsletter subscribers or post a notice on the site.
